HOCKEY RESUMPTION

At such a time last year, the Kenya hockey scene was warming up to an exciting hockey season.
The premier league was gearing up for explosive action. Newly promoted sides Mombasa Sports Club and Parkroad Badgers (men) rearing to challenge for their space at the very top.

The ladies’ sides had played a solitary match save for Kisumu based Lakers and Sliders. Newbies DFG Wolverines pulled a goalless draw against seasoned Strathmore scorpions while Oranje Leonas lost 3-0 to Amira Sailors in their maiden match with goals from Yvonne Madowo, Sandra Vodoti and Leah Omwandho. Then covid-19 happened pronto! And the wait started…

The wait is finally over.
Kenya Hockey Union has announced resumption of the premier league in a phased resumption of hockey activity. The Deputy Match and fixtures secretary has hinted that the resumption of the other leagues will be dependent on behaviour of teams in the premier league. “We have put in place covid management protocols and tested them with the national teams currently training.”
He further stated that fans will not be allowed into the stadium. Players will be required to leave the stadium as soon their match is over.
